World Cup Draw

world cup

It’s the big week for US Soccer –  we get our WC2010 draw on Friday.  The real big day though is Wednesday, as this is the day where FIFA will release the formula they will use.  FIFA had this to say: The detailed criteria to determine the seeded teams for the Final Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ will be confirmed at the next meeting of the Organizing Committee for the FIFA World Cup™ in Cape Town on 2 December 2009 (and… Read more

Neil and Raf’s Textual Healing (Part Two)

lady-gaga

3:50: Hell freezes over. Raf: CASTILLO!!!!! AND HELL FROZE OVER. MB90 OFF THE PITCH!!!! Neil: Omfg. Good job Bobbo. AKA, the only thing that Bobbo did right all game. Get his boy off the field, and let Castillo on. And, even then, he screwed this up. Bad Benny had reared his ugly head when the effort level went to shit, and he was our only creative presence in the midfield. We were losing because there was a disconnect between the strikers and the… Read more

Neil and Raf’s Textual Healing (Part One)

gekas-250708_0453

That game sucked. I’m pissed. I’m not even going to analyze anything. I’m just going to go over my real-time text message conversation that I had with Neil the entire time: 3:00 p.m. ET: I curse out the 4-letter network for not cutting to the US game when I realize 25 minutes have gone by. Instead, I had to watch the fighting Fanes Gekases beat the defeated Shevchenkos. Raf: Fanis Gekas to S Africa! Neil: Fanis Gekas = Eichmann. (Neil hates Gekas… Read more

The Puck Strikes Back

Puck 3

Ladies and gentlemen, Thierry Henry haters of all ages, please allow me to introduce myself, I am PUCK. I like to consider myself a man of all things sports. Growing up in Western New York, I am a long tortured Buffalo Bills/Sabres (Adios Dicky Boy) fan, and an unapologetic New York Yankees and Blackchester…err Manchester City enthusiast. I have never blogged before, so hopefully you and I can get through this in one piece. As a roommate and friend of the… Read more

Introducing Jacklegs – Levy

dellusionalprattheader

jackleg (jack-legg) – Slang. a contemptibly naive, fatuous, moronic, or inconsequential person. Jackleg. The word, the myth, the legend. It’s a useful insult, and one that you won’t hear less than five times in any hour spent hanging around Yanks contributing writer Neil Blackmon. So we’ve got the definition, but when is it actually appropriate to label someone a jackleg? And why does Wayne Rooney keep coming to mind every time I type the word?… Read more

Previewing U.S./Denmark – Crowley

denmark-wcup-soccer-2009-10-6-9-12-46

Since we have another friendly Wednesday against Denmark, I thought it would be wise to illustrate what Bobbo “will do” and what Raf “would do differently.”  As announced today, the roster for the Denmark game was just released.  Here’s what Bobbo is “going to do” for his starting 11 I think: Keeper: Guzan Defenders: Bornstein (LB), Spector (CB), Boca (CB), Cherundolo (RB) Midfielders: Rodgers (LMF), MB90 (DMF), Clark (DMF), Holden… Read more

Vote For Best Soccer Blog

nominate

The U.S. Soccer team’s official Web site is currently conducting a search for the best soccer blog. As stated on the site, www.ussoccer.com, “Countless soccer blogs are on the information superhighway, but which is the one you click first when you get into the office in the morning?” The Yanks Are Coming encourages you to take a minute or two out of your day to let the world know about your favorite soccer blog. <Insert shameless self-promotion… Read more

U.S./Slovakia Wrapup – Crowley

vegas bomb2

So there I was Friday night, minding my own business, watching some meaningless TV. I was having an internal debate about the merits of spending yet another night at Sh’booms. On one hand, it would be AWESOME, as I just discovered what a Vegas Bomb was about 2 weeks ago, and I recently got the top score on the Gemsbok adventure of Buck Hunter. On the other hand, I had like the best sports day ever set up for myself on Saturday. I knew I’d have to get up at… Read more

Nov. Yankette of the Month: Kirsten Dunst

KirstenDunst

November Yankette of the Month,  27 year old New Jersey (the nice part) native Kirsten Dunst, has been around so long (She was ELEVEN when she received a Golden Globe nod for Best Supporting Actress in Interview with a Vampire) it seems she must be older (think 27 year old Landon Donovan, but you know, a really attractive and accomplished actress instead of accomplished footballer). Like Lando—Dunst has had her share of ups and downs—think… Read more

Anyone Seen These Americans? – Levy

milk-carton-costume

Kljestan. Califf. Beasley. Spector. Four different cases with one common bond — it’s been a while since we’ve seen any of these guys in the red, white, and blue (or the black and red in the case of the badass away uniforms). So why can’t these guys get on the field? And what have they been doing in the meantime? Sacha Kljestan: A rising star in the American central midfield a year ago, Sacha was seen as an offensively minded compliment to Michael… Read more
