After thinking long and hard for the last several hours, I really had no idea what to write about for this week’s Happy Hour post. Of course there has been a significant amount of USMNT and World Cup news in general, but what topic should I chose to formulate 700 (658) words on? Instead of writing an incoherent piece on just one topic, I figured I would give you just some quick thoughts on all the random shit I have been thinking about. John Fucking… Read more

Sucks for Charlie Davies. In a week it will be yesterday’s news. By comparison, the John Harkes controversy lasted 12 years. In early 1996, U.S. Coach Steve Sampson told Harkes that Harkes would be the captain of the men’s national team. Harkes was a stud back then, having earned trophies in England, and playing well in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups. He led D.C. United to MLS Cups in 1996 and 1997. On the national team he… Read more

Cautious optimism is the term I’ve got to use in reacting to the latest news on two of the America’s most exciting young players. Yes, Stuart Holden is now a Premier League player after signing with the Bolton Wanderers. And yes, Charlie Davies’ recovery has him so far ahead of schedule that he’s eyeing not only the World Cup but even getting in some French Ligue 1 games this spring. Good news all around, but don’t throw a party just yet. First… Read more

After some final check-ups, which he underwent at the hospital from Monday till Wednesday, the doctors told that the progress Charlie Davies makes, is “fantastic”.” The staff at The Yanks Are Coming continues to wish Davies a speedy recovery. My thoughts on the Honduras match and where we’re headed: 1.) Jozy is the real-deal. Jozy played the best game I’ve ever seen him play. He was clearly inspired by Chuck D’s injuries and was ready to take it out on the Ticos. He was remarkable, and he’s improved dramatically since he started playing for Hull. Last night, I noticed that his first touch is much improved, and now he can hold the ball up top by himself much like a Didier… Read more

U.S. Soccer just hit a huge high with the boost of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, and promptly followed that with the brutal low of Charlie Davies’ car crash. A fractured tibia and femur along with a laundry list of other injuries will almost certainly keep Davies from returning for the World Cup, but USMNT fans should just be hoping that he plays soccer again. These are the kinds of injuries that can end careers, but my gut tells me we’ll see Chuck… Read more

The Yanks showed two different faces on Wednesday in The Azteca; unfortunately while one of those faces was on display for only one moment of brilliance, the other reared its ugly mug for the other 92 minutes. Landon Donovan’s through ball to Charlie “Chuck D” Davies and the ensuing cool finish conjured images of everything that was right about the American attack in the Confederation’s Cup. As for the rest of the soccer match, the only images it… Read more
