Predictable Predictions: Goals Edition

Hello friends. As we are all aware, the only man that could find the net in Germany was your friend and mine, Clint Dempsey. In this edition of Predictable Predictions, let’s take a look at who may punch the proverbial onion bag more frequently than all other fellow Americans in South Africa. Let’s start it off with Landon Donovan, who is currently sitting at 7/2. Donovan scored his first international goal in his first international appearance back in… Read more

And The Autograph Winner Is…

Before we announce the winner of the contest, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of our readers who participated. There were so many great videos of Clint going bananas which made for a very hilarious evening in the very cold and boring Northern New Jersey. That being said, we’d like to congratulate one of our long-time readers, Dakota Sillyman, for his winning entry. Way to go, Dakota! On a side note, who is going to Hartford and Philly? I’ll… Read more

Clint Dempsey Autograph Contest

With Clint Dempsey set to make history later this afternoon in the Europa League final, we thought it would be a great opportunity to give away an awesome prize. Include a link to a YouTube video and you might just score yourself some bonus points. Please submit your entry (only one allowed) before… Read more

Deuce Leads Fulham To Europa Final

Before attending a match at Fulham’s Craven Cottage, you can have a beer at McBride’s the pub named after the great American striker Brian McBride, now a Fulham legend. Fulham, a small club in the west of London, has always been in the shadow of its larger neighbor, Chelsea. But at no other club in Europe have American internationals made their presence felt in the way they have at Fulham. This Wednesday Fulham, a team with no significant trophies, will… Read more

Clint Dempsey On ESPN’s E:60

If you haven’t seen it, here is a clip of the Clint Dempsey feature on ESPN’s E:60. You probably know Dempsey didn’t have the easiest upbringing, which makes his success even more amazing. I highly recommend checking out the… Read more

Clint Dempsey: Soccer Player, Realist

As you probably already know, Clint Dempsey recently spoke on the Yanks World Cup group consisting of England, Algeria, and Slovenia. He came to the not-so-groundbreaking conclusion that a third or fourth place finish in group play and no trip to the knockout rounds would be a failure for the team. In the realm of quotes to the press, this represented a Captain Obvious-esque performance. But even so, in a U.S. National Soccer team world rife with Coach Bob… Read more

Friday Odds & Ends

If there is one thing missing from The Yanks Are Coming, it is probably our lack of a podcast (and a female voice). We’re not ones to make excuses, so all I’ll say is look for one to drop in the coming weeks. Until then, I implore you to check out the good things happening over at World Football Daily. More than just your run-of-the-mill podcast, WFD would be best described as a soccer video talk show. Featuring two great hosts in Steven Cohen and Kenny… Read more

Dempsey to World: “I’m Back!”

On a busy sports Wednesday that saw a double OT battle between the Gators and BYU, soccer stole the show as Fulham’s Clint Dempsey scored on an incredible cross-field shot that landed in the top corner of the net against Juventus. Not only did this extend the lead to three goals for the Cottagers, but it also gave them the 5-4 aggregate win over Juve in the Europa League. As Dwight Howard so eloquently states in his Vitamin Water commercial, the goal was,… Read more

Dempsey Escapes Majory Injury

Finally we have news today regarding the Dempsey situation. The good ol’ 4-letter network (and about 250 other sources) is reporting that Dempsey is not going to require surgery, he could return to Fulham by the end of the year, and he could play in the World Cup this summer. Details were not given as to the specific nature of the damage, but we can use a little bit of inference to figure out the exact details of the injury. The doctors’ initial… Read more

Media’s Coverage Of Dempsey Injury Riddled With Misinformation

I promised y’all a post today with an update on the Dempsey situation. Unfortunately, there’s been no news yet. This could mean that they’re just not releasing what the MRI revealed, or it could mean that his knee’s still too swollen for an MRI to really show anything. As soon as I hear something, I’ll put something up. Now I’m going to take out my frustration regarding this situation out on a few others. As I’ve been looking on the interwebs… Read more

Clint Dempsey: Uh-Oh?

We might be in trouble. Clint Dempsey is hurt. This could be bad. Very bad. In fact, this is as close to the worst-case scenario for the USMNT that I can imagine. I’ve spent all morning watching sports hype and surfing Al Gore’s interwebs. All of a sudden, a little while ago, the 4-letter’s front page reloaded and I see U.S. soccer team’s Dempsey has knee injury. I click on the story, and I see that the prognosis is “not good” and that it’s pretty… Read more

Dempsey Says, “Attention World” With “Declaration Of Independence” Goal

The post for most readers is at best fashionably late, but as we await the thaw of the permafrost in England, and as such await the re-arranged Carling Cup Semifinals, featuring American goalkeeper Brad Guzan against Blackburn Rovers, a side so clearly focused on Thursday’s re-schedule that they were iced (4-1) by more than Jack Frost Monday at a Blankcheckster City side that had around seventy million pounds of talent…start the fixture on their bench… Read more

The American Dream on Foreign Turf

Success in American sports can have many different implications and meanings. For those faithful to the New York Yankees, a season without bringing home another World Series ring is unacceptable. Every single Detroit Red Wings supporter come playoff time would rather give away their children than gloomily wander out of Joe Louis Arena in the midst of defeat. These two teams and championships go hand in hand. But on the other end of the spectrum, struggling… Read more
