As a few The Yanks Are Coming readers are aware, our Editor In Chief and fearless, visionary leader Daniel Seco does not have a favorite English Premier League Team. He’s dabbled a bit with the boys at Craven Cottage but never fully bought in. Same for the Billy Beane Sabermetrics club success story that plys its trade at the Emirates. So he’s not a Gunner, and he’s not a Cottager, but let’s call those two clubs the leaders in the clubhouse. As we… Read more

So Joe Cole leaves Chelsea and joins Liverpool for a no doubt whopping signing-on fee plus a comparable weekly wage and probably the promise of greater playing time. Since bursting onto the scene with West Ham nearly 10 years ago as the next big thing, Cole has flattered to deceive. Whilst obviously talented, Chelsea never really found a regular place for a player who really needs a team built around him rather than trying to fit him into an irregular… Read more

Within the last 48 hours, my favorite EPL team, Manchester City (called Blankcheckster City by fans of other less kick-ass EPL sides) and their scarf wearing, meatball eating coach Roberto Mancini have confirmed their interest in signing [Landon Donovan during the summer transfer window. This comes directly on the heels of MLS commissioner Dan Garber’s announcement that the MLS would not consider selling Landbro under any circumstances. No matter what Garber… Read more

Rangers @ Celtic 5/4/10 Maurice Edu started, played the full 90, and gave a foul in the 2-1 defeat in Celtic Park. DaMarcus Beasley did not see any action for the ‘Gers, however he has indicated that he would be willing to take a pay cut to stay with the club. Borussia M’gladbach v. Bayer Leverkusen 5/8/10 Michael Bradley played all 90 minutes, committed a foul and got a shot off in the 1-1 draw. M’gladbach finished in 12th place in the… Read more

Number 13: Frank Lampard Country: England Position: Midfielder Club Team: Chelsea American-Based Professional Sport “Soulmate”: Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants It is 2:15 AM on a Sunday night and I’m still wide awake. Being awake at this hour is not uncommon for me; as Puck would say, “Sorry for partying.” Being this wide awake this late on a Sunday though – this is kind of weird. The reason I’m still awake, is that over the… Read more

Aris Salonika v. Olympiakos 4/28/10 Eddie Johnson netted a pair of goals in the 2-0 win for Aris. Freddy Adu provided the assist on Johnson’s first goal. That video is worth checking out, it was a very nice assist by Adu, and at the 2:15 mark we get a solid look at a Greek babe. On another note, that crowd looks insane and there is no way that a couple 3rd degree burns didn’t go down. The Americans have Aris dreaming of a Champion’s League birth Fulham… Read more

Can you feel a draft? I guess it’s a sign of how well I have adapted to American life that I am checking my Smartphone every five minutes to see which pile of ass the Atlanta Falcons blow their first round draft choice on this year. It also got me to thinking, why isn’t there a draft in soccer? Firstly the recruiting systems are quite different, British clubs with Academy schemes can sign kids straight from school at 16 and bring them… Read more

West Ham @ Liverpool 4/19/10 Jonathan Spector and the Hammers went down 3-0. Spector started and played all but 10 minutes. After the game, Spector was looking forward to the must win match against Wigan. Aston Villa @ Hull City 4/21/10 Brad Friedel started, and Jozy Altidore entered in the 55th minute in East Yorkshire. Friedel recorded the shut-out in the 2-0 win. If you ever spend any time in East Yorkshire, check out the Skidby Windmill…. Read more

We here at The Yanks Are Coming have gone on a bit of a bender for the past week or so. Tons of alcohol, sex (no, seriously!), sports watching and downright debauchery has consumed our lives. Hell, look at the Facebook event details for the party we threw on Friday: Word has it that when a man dies he evacuates his bowels and bladder, essentially expiring in a puddle of his own refuse. Come one, come all, and experience the death throes of The AFH with… Read more

The World Cup usually boasts the greatest players in the world, but occasionally, circumstances conspire to keep some of the world’s greatest from strutting their stuff on the biggest stage. It might seem like an unforgivable crime against football, but here is part one of the best players who never played in the World Cup. Duncan Edwards He was described by Bobby Charlton as “the only player that made me feel inferior.” Stanley Matthews said he was “like a… Read more

Aston Villa v. Everton 4/14/10 The duel between the current US keeper and his predecessor, ended a 2-2 draw after a 90th minute own goal by the Villans. Tim Howard made three saves and Brad Friedel had a pair. Howard had plenty of praise for his teammate, Tim Cahill, who scored both goals for Everton. Rangers @ Dundee United 4/14/10 Mo Edu started and played 90 minutes before limping off the pitch in extra time. Edu committed a pair of fouls and… Read more

I apologize to my reader(s) for the better late than never version of “The Week in Review,” I know you have been missing sleep over it. Rangers v. Aberdeen 4-7-10 Maurice Edu and the ‘Gers pulled out to a two goal lead before finishing off Aberdeen 3-1. 47,601 watched the full 90 minutes live, 47,602 if you count DaMarcus Beasley. Edu played the full match and had an assist. Mo is stepping into the role of playmaker for the Rangers, just in time to… Read more

Yanks fans, after the success of the “Ten People Who Would Ruin A Party” post, it got me and the rest of the TYAC staff thinking about people who actually add something to a party. After a couple weeks of careful consideration, I assembled a list of ten footballers, other athletes, and fictional characters that I want to party with me. It is important to remember that this is just a preliminary list. With enough time, I could probably produce a… Read more
